Common FAQs
What is the battery life of Rohm?
A full charge on the Rohm will last up to 8 hours, depending upon which setting you’re using. Again, louder volume = more battery drain.
Is it ok to run the unit while it is being charged?
It is also possible to run these units while they are plugged in.
Is there any difference between Rohm and the Hushh?
The Hushh has a few features that are baby specific that the Rohm does not have. The Hushh locks so baby can’t raise the volume and hurt tiny ears. The Hushh also has a night light that the Rohm does not. Furthermore, the Hushh has a clip to go on strollers, carseats, etc. The Rohm has a lanyard. The lanyard is a potential choking hazard on a “baby” item.
What is white noise?
White noise is a constant sound which can block out noises across a wide range of frequencies, steadily and at a lower volume than non-white noise. What our years of experience have taught us is that all white noise is not created equal, and we strive to make ours the best.
Can this be used internationally with an adapter, or will it blow out?
You can use it anywhere – you charge it using a USB cable.
What is the warranty coverage?
Dropnoise warrants its sound machine products (with exceptions as indicated below), to the original purchaser, to be free of defects for the duration as specified from the date of purchase. This limited warranty covers all parts and/or workmanship against defects or breakage in normal intended use. This limited warranty does not cover damage caused by accidental dropping, rough handling (e.g. buttons stuck or jammed), or misuse of the product, including tampering, or the application of electrical power other than that listed on the label. Altering or tampering with the label will also void this warranty. This limited warranty covers the products for use in the country they were purchased from. Should you attempt to use this product in another country, warranty will be void.
Technical Note: This sound machine is intended for portable use and must be turned off and unplugged every 14 days. If not turned off and unplugged, the unit may freeze or experience impacts to performance.
Joel –
One of the best white noise generators on the market – fall asleep and stay asleep!
I travel a lot, and used to often have trouble in my hotel room. First, I’m used to the sound of my house (the a/c, my wife, baby monitor hum, etc). Second, hotel A/C kicking on and off can be loud, people in the hall are loud, city noises, etc. Most white noise generators that make nature sounds fail miserably for a few reasons. First, they use cheap tinny speakers with too much treble. You can easily pinpoint the source of the sounds and it gets annoying. Second (and most important), they use 6 second clips of nature (1 ocean wave, a few raindrops), and then loop it over and over. When you wish to focus on the white noise to sleep, you WILL hear the loop and it WILL drive you crazy. I can tell it’s the same ocean wave over and over… I can hear the spot where the loop starts over.
For years I have relied on my Marsona Marpac TSC-330. However, I’ve had some issues with the power cord recently coming loose, and it is just starting to fall apart. I found this Marpac Rohm from the same manufacturer to be not only SUPERIOR to my TSC-330, but half the price. What makes it so good?
First, the speaker is really high quality. Nice bass quality, and it really fills the room with sound in a non-directional way (I can’t tell exactly where it’s coming from). It is one of those rare devices whose loudest setting is actually TOO loud. I guess this means it will work in really big rooms, but for my nightstand, I had it set somewhere in the middle (a great thing that I have headroom if I need it). Second, the electronics actually synthesize the sound dynamically, as opposed to using a recording. This means no obvious loop point, and in ocean wave mode, each wave sounds slightly different enough to prevent distraction. There are only 3 sounds here, but how many sounds do you need other than the one that makes you fall asleep (and stay asleep)?
The form factor is great – I love the “hockey puck” style. You can hang it from a door, or the back has a rubberized disk on it so it will lay flat on a nightstand and not slide off. You can run it on battery power, or just leave it plugged in to USB all night. Only thing that could make this better would be a travel case to keep dust from getting in the speaker. But seriously – this is a top product and highly recommended.
